How smart surveillance camera capture&analyze your moves?

Picture1:People movements are recorded on camera equipped with computer vision. Picture2:Sport game players moves are well seen and recorded.
In supermarket, you can get some statistical data on people's moves.

Table with automated activity log:Activity like running may be automatically spotted, so when shoplifter begins to run automatical alarm may be triggered.

Computer can catalog people with glasses, long hair, etc.
We always wanted to analyze traffic on street. What colors do they have: do red color mean they are communists? (in psychology red dress means something like family&love)

Normal and abnormal moves can be shown differently.

Surveillance camera can recognize your car registration numbers and other things.

Stopping messenger chat politely

Chats gets boring many times and you want to interrupt conversation but stay polite.

How to do it?

1.After saying something unimportant close conversation window. It's a great chance that your co-speaker will not respond and that means end of conversation.

2.After your co-speaker say something not so important, close conversation window. Maybe no replay will not be so impolite and this will be the end of conversation.

3.Make your conversation longer&slower with short answers like:
Ok
yeah
maybe.
This will give you time to browse web and do things.

4.sorry gotta go. Different excuses like dinner, toilet and other will give you an excuse to quit conversation. Sorry gotta go website offer plenty of (funny) sounds usable in voice conversations.

5. spam person with links and promotions. Probably you do promote some ideas and when trying to stopping conversation, promoting&brainwashing is good thing to try.

Calibrate improvisal Light box

Lightbox is illuminated place for making fotos of different objects. Anyone can have improvisal light box at home to make nice pictures of objects.

To get soft shadows use non direct lights or lights that have plain paper ahead to give more "soft light" (existing and additional lights can be used)

With sharp object measure witch lights give sharp shadows and move them to get more soft shadows.

For backdrop&grounding ( grey-brown color) was used big (used) envelope.

left shadow is little strong

right shadow is too strong and too sharp

right shadow is short but ok

with this tests only two main lights were used
the ideal object for testing should be glasses or something like that.

Streching fingers and palms with "strange to type" password strokes

Many people use password like

123456789

or some keys that lie together on keyboard, but are hard to type in single stroke.
Thise can be typed quickly after time(and practice).
Once brain cells develop and muscle cells develop you will be able to make that keystroke easier.

But next time chose different password. Maybe one that you can't type quickly at first time.

Besides stretching palms&fingers, it always pay to master a new move.

And what is best:you will be stretching your palms and fingers (that got tired after hours of work)

Measure round object distance with any cable

It's a great chance that you have cable or shoe lace handy anywhere you go.

Now you can measure objects with just headphone cable.
Mark centimeters on cable with ruler at home and that's it!

If you haven't done that you can still mark distance on cable and measure "cm" when you get ruler later.

Spy on someone's screen with skype desktop sharing

Skype allows Remote screen viewing. This option is available even if no microphone&camera is present.

This will allow you to make plenty of things like tech support, viewing remote files, viewing remote desktop.

I didn't know skype support this, and when I talked with some quite unexperienced user.. I wanted to see her webcam.. and her desktop poped-up.

Yes, she clicked OK without even knowing what it is.

Amazing, all web content she was browsing while talking to me.

When she typed something to me, but didn't send it but deleted it, it she would know that, i'm viewing her screen!

Install Google Crome for less webpage scrolling

Google Chrome have title bar and tab bar in the same bar. More over there is no menu bar so it save a lot of space for "high" webpages that are hard to show on widescreen monitors that are designed for cinema and games rather than reading.

If you have a lot of task online you can use Chromium OS live cd or dual boot.

DJ-Mixing music with only webbrowser and internet

Gonna mix some music for your friends?

All you need is internet enabled computer.

-Many songs can be found on youtube that allow you to play two songs at same time (with two tabs) so you can soft-fade volume to enter next song more smoothly. When song is unpleasant, just fade out and have prepared new song in other tab. (you can use two browser windows so no need to switching)
-if you have problems with copyrights on youtube try reading this article
-select key bands/djs
Do audience like jamiroquai like songs or pink? If Jamiroquai, than look for similar bends like
-play songs that are not well known, depending on party people many "unheard" Jamiroquai songs are really pleasant
-play songs from newest albums
popular artists release new album every 2 years so you can play new albums that are found on wikipedia
-check what youtube suggests
suggestions are really welcome, so you can concentrate on something else
-use google for correct spelling of artists name

Watching movie&browsing simultaniously on pivot monitor

It's hard to watch movie and browse net on single monitor at same time with transparency. Web browsers don't like transparency much and videos even more..

picture: video player "always on top" over webrowser "google images search"

pic:fullscreen dvd playback without loss on 17' LCD screen. (video is not big but it's sharp!)

Rotated monitor (normal 17' lcd will do the job) and "always on top" function used on DVD movie

tested monitor resolution:1280x1024 rotated with xrandr (1024x1280) (no loss for DVD quality video)

Speed up your tasks with auto focus on windows

When is come to clicks, less clicks is better,...
"change the world with single click"

Xubuntu 9 seem to have useful "auto focus function" that auto focus windows based on mouse cursor postion.

It was very handy when editing two images-each in new window. I was satisfied and saved both images with CTRL+S, only moving cursor to second windos and again CTRL+S

Each click saved is a treasure.

less clicks:
imacros
switch windows into depth
old-school single click mode for folders

Speed up firefox by blocking images with "Ad block plus"

Ad block plus in firefox addon that is intending for blocking advertising of all kind. It has big database of ads that are automaticaly blocked.

This alone will speed you browser, but addon offer additional feature of blocking images.

Images are important memory&cpu eater, so if you block some images on websites you frequently visit your browsing will be faster (as well as bandwith consumption)

Select images you want to block, and help improve ad database as well. It isn't always hacking advertisers but sometimes you need to speed up slow webpages.

Print small booklet for small, portable and enjoyable ebook reading

Some time ago there was big need of printing things from internet. In Adobe reader there was some option that bring out of printer "two pages on one -that's 50% zoom" and with pages "all messed up" in matter of page numbers.

After realizing page numbers and sticking things together you get acutualy small&useful booklet.

If you think that 50% zoom is too small for you you can always zoom in more while keeping "2 pages per A4 ratio"

Being Bossy with yourself

You set alarm clock. Alarm clock order "wake up" at 6 P.M. You don't want to. But you need to obey alarm clock you have installed before (when you were bossy about waking hour)

How to be boss of yourself?

Many times you make voice memo clip with your cell phone.

a.Give orders inside voice memo.
b.Listen to these orders.
c.And obey voice clips (that's why this stupid post is posted anyway, just to obey some voice note made before)

+ voice clip can now be deleted&forgotten
+ one new post on this blog
- should better be smart boss next time

Use of clean controlers with less bacteria

When a lot of people share keyboard, mouse, joypad, door, etc..These get dirty and carry bacteria.

Solution?
1.keyboard can be washed with soap. It's time that you try to wash keyboard in washing machine and report here how it survived.

2.No controller options:
-webcam controling (MS Natal project)
webcam recognise your movements and interpret them
-voice controlling
sometimes it's enough if you just whistle as signal

Think in foregein language to improve your language speaking skill

We already talked about learning languages with movie watching and even experimenting with different subtitles.
But this new method of learning language is something very powerful to get your language skills on very high level.
Think in foreign language. Switch.

(Your IQ level falls 70% here)
Once you get used to it, your speak will be very fluent. However at beginning you think in foregein languages as if you would be very very stupid..

But after this technique will help you learn all these language. Just don't try to think in C++ programming language, that make organic cells hard.

Guessing msn address for someone you don't know address/username exactly

How to guess someones msn address or mail address?

Contact's name may look like:

name.surname@hotmail.com or surnamename@hotmail.com or name."firstletterOfSurname"@hotmail.com
was pretty much used in old days by serious people

if you deal with serious open-minded type that joined "in time of gmail popularity"
(mostly people younger of 30 at time of writing)

nickname@gmail.com

open-minded used also
@yahoo.com @yahoo.co.uk @msn.com seemd rare

someone very simple would use something like
@aol.com or their internet provider domain

if you know where this person work, use domain of company.

Skype search, facebook search, and other will produce more chance to get in touch with this contact.
But if it is about mail password guessing,
then, that's something else..

Use clothes and cables to make improvisal bags and holders

Power supply unit attached to bike with only cables!

There was a lot of buzz about reusable shopping bags lately but now it's time to learn how to carry things around with no bags.

Making simple bag from any cloth you are wearing is easy. In japan they use special cloth called Furoshiki. But if you have something with cables like PSU above you can wear it with no cables. I if you can make cables to work as shoe laces/belts. It would be just brilliant.

Face recognition, how you do it and how bees remember your face

I wonder if there are bees gossping about me this moment, hope not.
This picture shows how bees recognie human face. Yes, animals think and in many cases pretty well..

This pattern is very similar to human "face recognition"

I think that when i recognise faces i use about 40 ms and start on nose and switch focus to middle of ear. This gives an angle that is always same, no matter of head orientation, brightness and face expression..

My phone recognse face, bee recognise face, security camera recognise face?, my neighbout recognise face.. doesnt seem this "face" word somehow familiar? maybe website called "frendface" or sth?

Why would be Albania great country to select for your home country?

When selecting country in internet forms. There is offen a question "where are you from?"

Different websites will consider this information true and regarding to it, give you appropiate services.

This may influent.
1. number of adds
(once i selected that i come from Columbia or some country from south America and my msn was full of adds)
2. copyrigths
When you are logged in youtube. Youtube seem to disallow some copyright protected videos if you come from country that has strong copyright protection.
3. software patents
some countrys have software patents enabled.
4.avability of services
some services are avibil for only US users. For example "playstation store" is not avaible in many developed countries (and first selection can't be changed)

What is so cool about Afganistan? It come with handy letter "a" and you don't need to scroll much at least. Albania (2nd) is more peaceful solution on full-location list.

Lower memory usage by selecting smallest-size icons/themes

Icons visible on desktop, taskbar, startmenu, and elsewhere use your memory and cpu resources. Many of these can be changed to more simple.

When selecting icons so that computer will work faster, sort icons by size and select the smallest icons.

Same can be done in themes. If you select themes that have smaller overall size there is great chance that smallest will be the fastest.

Free wireless internet on wireless hotspots with access controls (no encription, login form)

Many hotspots use some "login" form that allow users to use wireless internet. Without that login name & password you can't surf unless you know how to bypass it.

All you need to do is to impersonate someone else by using his MAC address. Only thing Wi-fi hotspot seem to know about it's users is MAC adress. We will sniff air to find out who is connected to network and than change our MAC to this users MAC:

Participating in forums results in more "fresh" informations than reading forum posts

If you spend a lot of time online, you are probably familiar that posts you read on forums, boards and blogs are many times of older date.

Here comes the term "real-time web."
To participate in real time web read blog daily (like this blog) and participate in comments. This will not only give you very fresh informations (for example about some quick developing software) but also informations that are related to you (pesonalized web). Engage.

Memorizing with mobile phone camera & mic

Mobile phones have 'voice notes' and 'high-res camera' that help you remember things.
Use camera to record picture, microphone to record audio.

Tasks humans can do better with computer

Some tasks you can do better with help of silicon brains:

remembering
writing things down saves your brain toons of energy. and neurons are energy hungry. so next time you will need to remember something at exect time (let's say you need to remember visit this blog next time you are online, don't remember it just put it in your bookmarks. it's easier)

why don't just record voice clip on your mobile?

Make a picture album, that will save you plenty of memories.
Example: take pic of library opening times.

calculating
-fastest simple computations can be made by physical calculator,

-google calculator is powerful tool, besides wolfram calculator

any mobile has now powerful calculator

sharing on internet
you can share your thoughts with more people, just like this post do

It's harder to scream that loud.

MFS Mar 2010 Dan Bernard

By Robert S. Pearson

I have never had a class with Dan, nor have I worked with him, but that is only a testament to his reputation as I have know about him, and his work, for some time. Dan has the reputation of being a filmmaker with an edge, and a uniquely dark style. Perhaps I have not looked more forward to any other filmmaker's responses to my questions, because I knew Dan's answers would provide insight into his dark, and mysterious imagination. I started by asking, why film?

Dan:
It took me a while to figure out that I wanted to get into film making. Since I was little, I've always been force fed movies by my mother and my aunt. My aunt even begged my mother to let me go to the auditions for the 'Denis the Menace' movie, but my mother ultimately said no. I've always loved art work and film is nothing less than an art form in my eyes. It was like waking up one morning, the sun shining in through the venetian blinds, eyes opening fully awake and alert. Jumping out of bed and just ready to go meet the challenges this day brings while making and meeting your own along the way.

I asked Dan about his influences outside the world of film.

Dan:
My biggest influence is my mother, for always believing in me and knowing that I would eventually do something with my life. Others would be my grandparents for putting up with me for the six years I've been in Florida, love you guys to death, my Father for supporting me, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't even be here now.

Favorite Filmmakers

I wanted to know what Dan's overall goal as a filmmaker is.

Dan:
My goal as a filmmaker is to be successful and happy. I can't really ask for more than that.

Favorite Movies

I was curious what Dan's plans for the future are.

Dan:
What's next... Well I'm working on a Zombie film with another student as the Director of Photography, and right now I'm planning what I'm going to do for my senior project. Still in the logistics stage of that one.

One of my favorite parts about writing the spotlight each month is getting to hear what the AI Tampa professors have to say about the featured students.

Dr. John Muehl:
In the time I have known Dan, I have watched him grow into a dedicated worker. He has developed into an excellent teammate and leader during production. His ability to work closely with others will lead to much success in Dan's future as a film/videomaker.

Professor Greg LeSar:
Dan Bernard is a little disturbed, and it shows through his work. His movies are grotesque, violent, and impossible to look away from.

Special Thanks
Dan:
Again I'd like to thank my mother, grandparents and father and the rest of my family for being supportive of me and doing whatever it is they can do to help me out along the way. Time's have been tough recently, and I've felt it just as much as the next person, but I will persevere.

I want to thank Dan for his time, as well as professor LeSar, and Dr. John Muehl for their thoughts. Check back next month for the newest Spotlight!
