Advantages of having hosting by hand (not remotely):

+no outsider can mess with your files and hardware (with his physical presence)
+you can mess (can be good if you want to unplug hosting without knowledge how to do it)
+you can use hardware (idle Cpu cycles)
+complete control over everything
+free heating
+free air-conditioner (should be present on hosting site)
+hardware parts available (to use them you may need to shut hosting)
+ability to check hardware and labels like that one on motherboards, rams.....
+sell/share hosting service to friends/partners



As seen there are many but most are pretty useless. Remote hosting is elegant.. and don't have some disadvantages of hosting on site:

Many programs use names&titles that tell little about their function..

Some programs give small clue:
Picasa (google application for images)

Some thell a most of program function:

Every battery has limited number of recharge times. After time it loses duration. To prevent it wearing-off charge it as little times as possible (but don't just store battery device unused for longer period)

Many things that consume battery consume cpu power, so cellphone shall work faster as well. Spot friends that have same phone and latter exchange parts and batteries..

DIY:Transform any charger into Usb charger

What we did was transformation (and repair) of broken Car-cellphone-charger into usb-cellphone-charger.

Computer with usb ports are everywhere and transformation is very easy.

1.cut away usb cable male plug
2.cut away adapter (or open adapter and get the two power cables)
3. connect red and black cable of usb to charger cables.

Charging over usb is pretty slow.(but may be good for battery?)

Make DIY heater from any device with termostat

Sometimes it gets very cold but the heating is not adjusted..
To avoid these low temeratures drops in the morning and on few cold days at winter a termostatic heating device can be build. Device that will heat when temperatures in your room drop under 14 C or under 10 C.


That heater can be build with any (kitchen) device that turns off at certain temperature:




Put the termostat on low temperature and insert it in iron (non flamable!) case, maybe old computer case or something. Leave small hole so you can regulate how much hot air will leave or how thin is isolation.

And temperatures in your room (house) shall be more stable (less sharp temperatures drops).

Recycle disk space NON-STOP to get most of hard drive

Good news: disk space is recyclable.
Deleting files produce more space that can be rewriten with different files.
It means that if you have 400 GB disk and read&write speed of 4 GB/s you can "recycle" all disk space in 100 seconds! If you would have download speed of 1 MB/s you could recycle all disk space every 5 days.

There always seem to be some disk space that is constantly occupied (i.e operational system files)

Rotate any lcd screen with just screwdriver!

Pivot monitors are not very expensive, but there is great chance that your old monitor is not pivot (able to rotate.) However 17' or 19' inch lcd screen is pretty small for normal tasks and reading, but if rotated it's enough for reading text and most other tasks.


When rotating monitor note that lcd screen is not very strong and pressure can degrade it's quality.
Best option to rotate monitor seem to be just taking screen off, rotate it and try to attach it again with screwdriver.

I got this error when trying to download photos form Samsung camera with Gnomad or Qlix. Seems like one photo was damaged and didn't want to download.

Download limits, upload limits, how to make use of them?

Many filesharing applications allow limiting downloads and uploads. This can be greatly used to get good speeds when needed.

Download limits have great impact on how quick websites load. If your torrent client eat all your download bandwidth your page loading times will be long. So use low download limit (half of your bandwidth) to get files without disturbing other internet activites.

Uploading counts. When making "your" filesharing community it is wise to upload. This will even results in better stuff you get so keep upload limits as high as possible while little of upload bandwith is used when browsing web.
