Xubuntu vs Ubuntu Comparison

What is the difference between Ubuntu to Xubuntu Operational Systems?

System requirements:
  • Ubuntu require 256 MB Ram to install (Xubuntu 192 MB)
  • Xubuntu will be faster especially on older computers and from live cd.
  • 8+ GB hard drive for comfortable install (both)
Ubuntu is "the main distribution" of all Ubuntu desktops so it has best compatibility with upgrade system, packet management and online support. Many websites tutorials usually talk just about "Ubuntu"

Xubuntu is actually lightweight version of Ubuntu.

Xubuntu is ubuntu with xfce

Xubuntu use simple Xfce desktop instead of Gnome and lightweight programs like AbiWorld and Gnumeric instead of full equipped OpenOffice that come pre-installed with Ubuntu.

Summary:

Xubuntu is easy enough for a first Linux install for determined beginner that have used computer. Ubuntu is great and simple choice for new computer. Both can be installed by total beginner and offer decent linux expiriance.
