After Gmail chat it's nothing new that google wants you to connect with peers and follow them. Hotmail used thing similar to buzz long time ago. Anyway Gmail Buzz seem to me even better than Facebook social networking site. More solid.
Search for people return plenty of results (similar to Skype).
There seem to be no privacy so you don't need approval to follow someone. Privacy is kind of luxury these days.

Gmail Buzz can be turned off same way as Gmail chat
Buzz come right after inbox. Problem is that when I want to check something in my gmail inbox, then I get distracted by spam, chat, buzz. But as far there is no number of new posts on buzz..it's ok.
